Travels in Ladakh - About the book

Kashmir First ... The Kashmir Story Volume I
M.Ashraf had the opportunity of visiting Ladakh in June, 1974 when it was thrown open to tourists, both domestic and foreign. He and his colleague Abdul Rauf travelled to Kargil and Leh to survey the availability of infrastructure for the expected tourists. After this first visit Mr.Ashraf travelled to Ladakh during his entire tenure of 30 years in the Tourism department. He not only travelled to Ladakh two to three times every year but also helped in the setting up various facilities. He has travelled to every part of Ladakh and is among the few who had the opportunity of visiting the part across the Line of Control. He wrote a series of articles about his travels in Ladakh in a column entitled, the “Ashraf’s Adventures” in Kashmir Times. He has now compiled these articles in the form of a book. It is a first-hand account of his travels, personal experiences, interactions with people in different parts of this enchanting land. It is an interesting read for both the earlier travellers to recall their nostalgic experiences and for the future travellers as a guide about what there is to see and experience!
